Oven & Range

Oven & Range repair, diagnosed properly

Ovens and ranges cover a lot of ground: freestanding ranges, slide-ins, wall ovens, double ovens, gas and electric cooktops. What they share is that a temperature problem and an ignition problem look nothing alike to us and identical to everyone else.

Common faults

Oven & Range problems we fix

If you recognise the symptom, tell us when you call. It narrows the fault before we arrive.

  • Oven won't heat at all

Bake element or igniter, depending on fuel. On a gas oven a weak igniter that glows but never opens the gas valve is a classic — it looks like it's working right up until nothing happens.

  • Food burns on one side or bakes unevenly

Temperature sensor, a failing element, or a convection fan that has stopped. Often confirmed with a thermometer before anything is replaced.

  • Oven runs hotter or cooler than the setting

Temperature sensor or control board calibration. Worth fixing properly rather than compensating by adjusting the dial forever.

  • A surface burner won't light but the others do

Usually a clogged burner port or a failed spark electrode on gas, or a surface element or infinite switch on electric. Rarely the whole cooktop.

  • Burner clicks continuously even when lit

Moisture or debris in the spark module, or a cracked electrode. Irritating rather than dangerous, and usually a straightforward fix.

  • Control panel is dead or buttons don't respond

Touch panel or control board. On double ovens it's worth confirming which cavity's board has failed before ordering anything.

  • Oven door won't close flush or the glass is loose

Hinges or the door seal. Both affect how the oven holds heat, so an uneven-baking complaint sometimes ends here.

How we diagnose it

The $89 tells you what's actually wrong

We measure actual cavity temperature against the setting before assuming an element or a board, because those readings decide the repair. On gas we check ignition properly rather than by observation — an igniter that glows is not the same as an igniter that's drawing enough current to open the valve.

You get a firm price before any work starts, and the $89 comes straight off the bill when you go ahead.

Questions

Oven & Range repair questions

Do you repair gas and electric ranges?

Both, plus separate wall ovens and cooktops.

Do you work on double wall ovens?

Yes. Double oven control failures are a regular call, especially in Johns Creek and Alpharetta homes built in the late 1990s and 2000s.

My oven bakes unevenly. Is it worth fixing?

Usually yes, and often it's a temperature sensor rather than anything major. We confirm with a thermometer before recommending a part.

The igniter glows but the oven never heats. Isn't the igniter fine?

No, and this is the most misdiagnosed fault we see. A glowing igniter can still be too weak to open the gas valve. It's measurable, so we measure it.

Do you service high-end ranges?

Yes, including Thermador, Wolf, Viking, Dacor and Miele.

Extremely happy with response and service quality. Expecting to leave a message because it was Memorial Day, I was pleasantly surprised when the phone was answered. Appointment made for the next day for my washing machine which was making ugly noises. John arrived right on time and discovered what turned out to be a foreign object under the drum - then charged me only for the call out which was a bargain. Honest and fast and responsive.
